I based this character's voice off of a voice I created for an NPC, back in the days when I used to run Dungeons & Dragons campaigns for a small group.
My original D&D NPC's name was Murphies Locke, a thief that had a curse (Murphy's Law) named after him. After a series of catastrophic events, Murphies went from living an honest and decent life, to joining a thieves guild, to being banned from general thievery because he kept injuring himself and proving himself to be a liability, to being the official babysitter and mentor of the thieves guild's children. He pretended to be big and bad, claiming to hate his job. The truth was, he loved his job and the kids. One of his favorite things to do was gather them around for story time. That was where I got the idea to use that voice for this character, as the Seaskipper Captain enjoys telling stories to adventurers that use his services.
Considering the Seaskipper Captain makes so many references to certain beverages he enjoys, and a number of his lines reference the character having enjoyed said beverages, I chose to do some method acting of my own to help the character's spirit feel more genuine. For about 90% of these lines, I was enjoying my own version of Nemract Whiskey. No worries though. I am of age to have said drinks, and I was safe and responsible about it as well.
